INTRODUCTION Reading comprehension as a term highly diverse. In the context of teaching and learning, reading is viewed as a process towards understanding and as a product that can be measured. The reading selections will help you find topics for writing. Some of the selections provide helpful practical information.For examples, you’ll learn to discuss problems openly with others and avoid being manipulated by clever ads.Other selections deal with thought – provoking aspects of contemporary life. One articel, for intance, dramatizes in a vivid and painful way the tragedy that can result when teenagers drink and drive.Still other selections are devoted to a celebration of human goals and values;one essay, for examples, remind us of the power that praise and appreciation can have in our daily lives. The varied subject should inspire lively class discussions as well as serious individual thought.The selections should also provide a continuing source of high-interest material for a wide rangeof writing assigments. Thus, in reading, the first time someone distinguish each letter when discovered, hiding, matching written symbols with auditory equivalents, mixing them to form words, and acquire meaning. Therefore, finding the meaning of a word is terahir step in the process. II. FORMULATION OF THE PROBLEM Departing from a little exposure to the above, the problem can be formulated as follows: A. What are the concepts and processes in reading? B. what are the objectives and benefits of the act of reading? III. DISUSSION A. Intra integration After we get to know and adjust to what we read. we will make the process of linking between one material with another material. Between one sentence with another sentence. Then we come to the decision making. We can do the analysis, appreciation, selection, criticism and also willing to accept or reject what is presented related to the book to us. 5. To determine the order or arrangement of something (Reading for sequenc or organization). 4. To conclude from what he had read it (Reading for inferenc). 5. To classify (Reading to classify), or 6. To assess or evaluate (Reading to evaluate), for comparing or contrasting (Reading to compare or contrast), 7. To have fun and so on. Related to the purpose of reading, Rivers and Temperly (1978) proposed seven key objectives in reading : 1. To obtain information for a purpose or was curious about a topic, 2. To obtain instructions on how to perform a task for work or everyday life (for example: to know the workings of household appliances) 3. To act in a drama, playing games, solving puzzles 4. To touch with friends by correspondence or to understand the business letters. 5. To find out when and where something will happen or what is available, 6. To mengetahuo what is happening or has happened (as reported in the newspaper which, magazines, reports) and 7. To have fun or entertainment. Some learning goals in reading for students at a beginner level, intermediate, and advanced are: 1. Beginner level a. Recognize the symbols in the language b. Recognize words and phrases c. Finding the main idea and key words d. Short readings retells content 2. termediaInte level a. Finding the main idea and supporting ideas b. Interpret the content of reading c. Making the essence readings d. Recounting the various types of reading content (narration, description, exposition, argumentation, and persuasion) 3. Proficient or advanced level 1. By reading we learn about metofora, implications, persuasion, nature tone, expressions and many other elements which are essential for all types of artists, businessmen or inventors. 2.
